Protected Characteristics

The Equality Act became law in 2010. It covers everyone in Britain and protects people from discrimination, harassment and victimisation. Everyone in Britain is protected.  Under the Equality Act, there are nine Protected Characteristics:

  • Age
  • Disability
  • Gender reassignment
  • Race
  • Religion or belief
  • Marriage or civil partnership
  • Sex
  • Sexual orientation
  • Pregnancy and maternity
Protected Characteristics

The school extends these aims within our Character Education curriculum which feeds throughout our lessons and general school life. All children work towards developing their wider character traits which promote: courage, determination, respect, honesty, forgiveness, reflection, enthusiasm, consideration, self-discipline, tolerance, responsibility and flexibility. The premise being,  people who display this set of characteristics are more likely to live happy and successful lives.
