Pupil Premium
The pupil premium is additional funding provided to the school for supporting specified children to ensure they benefit from the same opportunities as all other children. There are 3 categories of children that qualify for pupil premium
- Children who have ever been eligible for free school meals during the last 6 years.
- Children with ‘looked after’ status currently or at any time during their life (including children who have been adopted)
- Children with a parent in the Armed Forces
Schools get this additional funding and it is for the school to decide how the Pupil Premium money is spent as they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual children. This can be to support families in funding extra-curricular activities, trips and residential as well as additional tutoring in school
Children are entitled to Free School Meals if their parents, carers or guardians receive any of the following:
- Income Support
- income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- the guaranteed element of Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
- Working Tax Credit run-on – paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
- Universal Credit – if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)
