Special Education Needs & Disabilities

Special Educational Needs & Disabilities Offer

Support for your child at Spindle Point Primary School

Our priority is to help your child to achieve the very best that they can at school. We appreciate that you know your child best and that you may feel that they need some additional support for some or all of their time at school.

The ‘offer’ is published to show you the types of support available for your child at Spindle Point Primary School. It is intended to help you understand who can help and how this can be accessed.

Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Disabilities

Approximately one in five children will have SEN at some time during their school career.

Children with SEN will have learning needs or physical disabilities which make it harder for them to learn than most other children of their age. For this reason, they may need extra help. For example with their learning, with an understanding of information, with remembering information, managing behaviour or organising themselves etc. This extra provision is put in place to support children to be able to access the curriculum and to make progress.

Education, Health Care Plan

If your child’s needs are complex or severe, we may suggest that we ask the Local Authority for a Statutory Assessment. This document will describe your child’s SEN and the special help they should receive.

If you would like to know what provision is in place for your child, or you have any concerns that your child has some additional needs please speak to your child’s class teacher.

You are also welcome to make an appointment with our SENCO Miss Peters petersk@spindle-point.bolton.sch.uk

All governing bodies of maintained schools and maintained nursery schools have a legal duty to publish information on their website about the implementation of the governing body’s policy for pupils with SEN. This information is updated annually.
