Reception

Welcome to Reception Class Page

Welcome to our Spindle Point Reception page where you will find lots of useful information about your child’s learning journey through their Reception year.

Our Reception class teacher is Mrs Hamer and our higher level teaching assistant is Miss Peet. Mrs Bardsley and Mrs Hurst are also our highly experienced teaching and learning practitioners.

Children have access to adult-directed and child-led exploration times in both the indoor and outdoor classrooms. We provide a bespoke curriculum that engages each child in the seven areas of learning that provides them with the opportunities needed to reach their full potential at the end of their Reception year.

In our Reception class, all children have the opportunity to develop their physical skills in fine and gross activities. They will develop in their personal, social and emotional growth, they will improve their communication and language skills which will enable them to become confident and inquisitive learners. They will make firm foundations in their literacy and mathematical skills and build upon their understanding of the world today and in the past and also become creative learners through their expressive art development.

As a school, we promote character education which stresses the importance of helping children to learn and practice the behaviours that reflect ethical values. This enables children to become conscious of the right thing to do. We do this through discussion and praise of specific behaviours with special stickers.

Our main form of communication between staff and parents is through our online learning journal; Tapestry. Weekly observations will be shared through this media to give you the opportunity to share your child’s achievements at home. Homework is also posted here and you will also be able to upload special times at home to share with staff.

The Reception week.

Our Reception children have a PE  lesson each Monday. Children can come to school in their PE kit on this day. Every Tuesday the children will have the opportunity to take home a library book. These are changed weekly. Thursday is homework day where we look at homework posted on Tapestry. Children will receive a special sticker for participating in our homework challenges. Each Friday reading books will be shared with practitioners once your child has reached this stage and a new book will be given.

Reception Events.

We have lots of exciting times to look forward to in Reception including going to Blackpool Zoo and enjoying a mini-beast exploration day at  Clifton Marina. We like to enjoy visits in our locality to Kearsley Mount Church, the park and even a trip to the post box.

The Early Years Curriculum

In September 2020, Spindle Point Primary School became an Early Adopter of the revised EYFS framework – Please see parent information letter below as to what this means for our curriculum.

The Early Year’s Curriculum is taught in the Nursery and Reception classes. In Nursery, the Early Year’s Curriculum follows a two-year rolling programme to ensure that children who remain in the setting for five terms experience a rich and diverse curriculum. Each topic is presented as a learning challenge question to generate further questioning and discussion which then leads their learning direction and captures the children’s’ interests.

It closely matches the Development Matters document Linked Here!

We know that children learn through a wide range of experiences that they can freely access throughout the day.  Children are able to explore new ideas, practise and develop skills and challenge themselves, ably supported by the Early Years staff in both the Nursery and Reception classes.  Learning is planned around key topics that change at least once every half term and is further enhanced by visitors and visits and special events.  Environments both inside and outside the classroom are carefully planned and resourced to reflect the topic as well as provide continuous access to key activities that support the children in all areas of learning, enabling them to make good progress towards the Early Learning Goals and beyond.

The statutory Framework for the EYFS can be found at Linked Here!

Letters To Parents

How to support your child at home: This is a great document which has been produced to map out the first five years of a child’s learning and development journey. It will give you ideas and guidance about what you can typically expect your child to be able to do at different milestones and offers practical suggestions to support their development at home:
