Spindle Point Reading Scheme Early Years & Key Stage 1

Our reading scheme is predominantly a phonics based reading scheme. Children usually progress through 9 stages during their first 3 years at Spindle Point. In each stage there are ‘core’ texts that all children must read.

In stages 1-6 these texts are Oxford Reading Tree Floppy’s Phonics Fiction and Non-Fiction. We also have some Oxford Reading Tree Songbirds texts as core readers. These texts are fully decodable and complement the phonics phases from Letters and Sounds. In addition to the core texts, children may read additional texts at each stage. The majority of these texts are also decodable and consist of: Oxford Reading Tree Songbirds, Big Cat Phonics and Collins Phonics Bug books.  We also offer the children texts that are not decodable and encourage them to use other reading cues. These are the Oxford Reading Tree books.

In stages 7-9 the core texts and the additional texts are made up from Oxford Reading Tree In Fact books, Project X origins and Collins Phonics Bug Books.
